Here we are back with the answer to another burning question that we have been asked during the course of this week. Is VCAT still working?

Well the answer to that is yes and no.
So VCAT are classified as an essential service but they have closed their doors to the public for all of the obvious reasons that we’re now familiar with. They are still hearing for Residential Tenancy Act and guardianship cases, still hearing urgent cases.
These are being organized as phone hearings and anecdotally, I understand that the process is working pretty well.
VCAT do the coordination to make sure that all the parties are there and on time.
So we believe the process is working, but as you can imagine there is going to be quite a backlog building.
Anything that is non-critical, non-urgent has actually been delayed up to and including the 15th May 2020.
So there will be quite a few cases for them to catch up on when they make their next move around hours open to the public et cetera.
We’re not sure when that will be, as with anything it’s a little bit up in the air at the moment.
But as soon as we hear, we will let you know.
Stay well, take care of each other.
